Facilitating a doubling of revenue by launching a new platform for travel bookings

The Challenge

Pollen was a global marketplace offering festivals, US collegiate travel and small group curated travel experiences. It capitalised on the strength of word of mouth marketing in the 18-25 market to drive sales. After several acquisitions in North America, they needed a way to sell travel using their successful ambassador model.

The Solution

A new, easy to use, consolidated booking platform to support customer accounts and travel sales for multiple brands and many different types of collegiate trip.

The Results

The platform successfully achieved 4,000 travel bookings in its second month and became the point of sale for all Pollen travel, going on to support 60,000 customers on over 100 campaigns in the US and Europe in just one year.

Transactions through the platform doubled company sales in one year (from 22.9m to £44.7m), making a vital contribution in taking Pollen from 7th on the Sunday Times Tech Track in 2019 to 4th in 2020.

Conclusion

The project was a success, supporting business growth, customer bookings and an expansion into the travel industry. Work continued thereafter to ensure that Pollen would stay afloat during the pandemic, including the introduction of 'cancel for any reason' insurance and a mass refund feature, which offered customers the option of a refund for a cancelled trip, or credit towards a future one.
